After four episodes, I’m ready to declare that this is the best show on TV right now, one day it will rank with _The Sopranos_ and the first season of _Twin Peaks_ as a contender for second best TV show ever (after the incomparable _Buffy , the vampire slayer_, one of the show’s producers and writers is ex-Buffy writer Drew Z. Greenberg, and the cast includes Buffy / Angel star Julie Benz.Dexter a sociopath with no human feelings and therefore no natural, internal moral compass and an unquenchable bloodlust that drives him to kill But he had the great grace of being the adopted child of a policeman who. (as we see in the frenzied flashbacks ) has successfully internalized the entire moral code, which he adheres to on a strictly intellectual level This is an absolutely brilliant concept (which from the novels it’s based on, I assume), which allows the writers to explore the nature of moral behavior and what it means to be human (Dexter is, in a sense, an alien). Another thing the show does brilliantly , is that it moves in parallel at different speeds.
The cast and production are fantastic
There is a primary apparent seasonal story arc (about Dexter’s game of cat and mouse with a serial killer) and a secondary arc involving Dexter’s sister’s career as a police officer. The first handful of episodes feature a very strong wrap-up arc about one of Dexter’s fellow cops and a local criminal, while two of the four episodes so far have included (and played off) ongoing storylines. I’ve seen the future of how TV seasons are structured, and this is it. While the writing doesn’t quite live up to the brilliance of the best of _House_, it’s excellent.

The only reason you wouldn’t want to watch this extremely brilliant show is its frequent use of extremely graphic imagery: there were probably more severed body parts in these first four episodes than the first four episodes of any other TV show. If you can handle it, tune in to be mesmerized by what makes us human—or inhuman.
